"A man's Cub That is Mowgli to the animals in an Indian jungle. His story begins when as a young child , he wanders into a cave, where a family of wolves live. He is adopted and raised by them as their own. As Mowgli grows up, Bagheera, the wise black panther, and Baloo, the sleepy bear, contirbute to his education. Mowgli learns to eat, hunt, run and sleep with the pack. These animals also teach himthe Laws of the Jungle, which he faithfully obeys.
As time passes, Shere Khan the jungle tiger who hates humans, convinces many young wolves that Mowgli does not belong to the pack. Mowgli feels betrayed and attacks Shere Khan and his followers with fire. He leaves the jungle and goes to the village. But when he finally kills and skins Shere Khan before he gets killed by the tiger, the villagers stone him. The incident makes him question his own identity, especially now that he is expelled from both the wolf pack and the village...
The other famous stories in the book include: The Story of "Kotick", the only white seal and the only one who travels to look for the ideal home for seals; "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi," the mongoose who protects the family from the cobras; "Toomai of the Elephants," a tale about an elephant, its handler, and the myth of the elusive elephant dance; and the "Servants of the Queen," where the lives of animals are discussed.
